[Kitab-i Remel] - [كتاب رمل]
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains two tracts on remel or divination by means of dots. The first of these (ff 3v-71r) is anonymous with no title and begins abruptly with a chapter heading. There are many marginal diagrams of various figures and tables on ff 14v, 29v-31r, 58v-62v, and 66v-70v. The text runs on between these illustrations.
The second tract (ff 71r-87v) is entitled Muntahab-i Hulasatu'l-remel and is ascribed to Daniel. There are diagrams and tables on ff 71v, 74v-77v, 78v and 85v. After this come various items in another and larger hand: a further table for remel (ff 88r-v); a prophetic tract, apparently translated from Arabic into Ottoman Turkish, by İmam Suyuti (ff 89r-90r); a poem on the same subject by Kemalpaşazade (f 90v); additional notes on remel (ff 91r-94r); several blank folios and then a prayer (ff 95v-97r); and finally Gurrename-yi şeri for 1223 AH (1808-09 CE).
This volume has been ascribed to İbrahim Ağa according to the lettering on the binding. It was likely copied in the early 19th century CE.
