- Title:
- [Divan-i Mahtumi] - [ديوان مختومى]
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains the collated poetry of Mehmet Vahit of Istanbul, who took the mahlas Mahtumi. In some poems found in this volume he is also called Mahtum or Vahit. The date of his death is given by Karatay (II, p. 183) as 1145 AH (1732-33 CE), apparently on the authority of the Tezkere of Ramiz. Flügel and Hammer both claim that Mahtumi was a contemporary of Nedim.
The Divan begins with a na't, followed by kasideler, chronograms, mesneviler and other longer poems, which end on f 46v. These are followed by the gazeller, which start on f 47v. Afterwards come more chronograms (ff 80v-91r), a further series of gazeller, and then a müstezad (f 98v), a murabba' (f 99r), more gazeller with rhymes from zeyn onwards, and ending in a kıt'a on f 115v.
A work commemorating various historical events in ornate prose interspersed with verses (many of which are chronograms) occupies the remaining folios of this manuscript (ff 116v-129v). The title of this work is Risale der beyan-i asami-yi menazil-i Despot li-Mahtumi.
The text contains three unvans.
The manuscript was likely copied in the 18th century CE.
