Sibṭ al-Māridīnī, Badr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad
- Scope & Content:
-
A manual by Badr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad Sibṭ al-Māridīnī (بدر الدين محمد بن محمد سبط المارديني, b. 1423, d. after 1497) on the calculation of the movements of celestial bodies with arcminute precision. In an introduction, ten chapters and a conclusion (خاتمة, f. 19v), the text summarizes and simplifies an introductory work by al-Māridīnī's teacher, Aḥmad ibn Rajab Ibn al-Majdī (أحمد بن رجب بن المجدي, b. 1366, d. 1447) entitled Kashf al-ḥaqāʼiq fī ḥisāb al-daraj wa-al-daqāʼiq (كشف الحقائق في حساب الدرج والدقائق, see f. 2v, lines 10-12).
The copy also preserves extensive calculation tables (ff. 2r and 22v-25r).
F. 2r is stamped with ownership seals of Muṣṭafá Ṣidqī (مصطفى صدقي; see Provenance).
Begins (f. 2v, lines 2-6):
Ends (f. 21v, lines 17-24):
