- Title:
- [Collected works of İzzi-i Şirvani]
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains poems, enigmatic verses and ornate prose by İzzi-i Şirvan, an almost unknown writer of the 17th century CE. Some of his works are listed in a kaside (f 19v). Some folios have notes in the margin on the metres used and explanations of poetical conceits and allusions.
The first poem in the manuscript is in praise of the Grand Vezir Mustafa Paşa, to whom the heading refers as to one still living. Evidently, this is the second Kara Mustafa Paşa, who was executed in 1094 AH (1683 CE) following the failure of the siege of Vienna. We learn that this is an autograph from the colophon (f 32v) as well as the date of transcription, 1092 AH (1681 CE).
The contents of the volume are:
(I) ff 1v-5v : Kaside for Mustafa Paşa;
(II) ff 7v-11r: Risale-i Bahariye, a description of springtime in prose;
(III) ff 11r-18r : Zahiretü'l-ukba, a kaside including the Divine Names;
(IV) ff 18r-19r : Kaside-i İnayet, a work on the Prophet Muhammad صلعم;
(V) ff 19r-19v : Kaside-i Fihristiye, on the author's works;
(VI) f 20r : Fütuvetname bi tarik-i tamiye, verse in daire form;
(VII) ff 20v-22r : Tarif-i bag der tasavvuf bi tarik-i tamiye, prose, ending with Persian and Ottoman Turkish verses;
(VIII) ff 22v-32v : Kaside on spring;
(IX) ff 33r-35r : five gazeller.
It is possible that the original manuscript contained more folios than its current state.
The text also contains the names of two works from the main body on f 1r; a verse couplet on f 35v; and various corrections in the margins by the author.
There are illuminated unvans on ff 1v, 7v, and 22v, as well as floral decoration stencilled into the margins in white surrounded by red, blue, orange, green and puce (ff 1v-23r).
The manuscript was copied by the author, probably at İstanbul 'in haste', with text VIII dated 1092 AH (1681 CE) (f 32v).
