The Western Nzema Traditional Council Archive consists of 194 files and volumes of varying sizes, sorted into 5 series. It has already been the target of a preservation intervention implemented under the auspices of the EAP569 project, which provided decent standards to ensure the long-term durability of the documents.
This collection, which amounts to one of the five series within the Western Nzema Traditional Council Archive, contains 45 files and 1 bound volume. It includes a heterogeneous corpus of records: documents regarding land rights and boundaries, lists of chiefs and acts, maps, court proceedings and judgements in civil, land and criminal remedies, as well as the financial administration of the Council. The documents span from the 20th century to the 2000s. The collection refers to the Western Nzema Traditional Area.
The collection has been kept by the Head of the Western Nzema Traditional Council, the Paramount Chief, since the time of its constitution.
The entire collection is currently located in the Traditional Council Registrar's office in the premises of the Paramount Chief's Palace in Beyin. The Palace is the Headquarters of the Western Nzema Traditional Council.
It uses Latin script with Nzima phonetic characters.
