Khordah Avesta

Scope & Content:

A copy of the Khordah Avesta comprising the introductory prayers, five Nyayishes; the Hormazd, Ardabahisht, two Srosh, Hom and Vanand yashts; five Gahs, Patit, Nirangs, and Namaskars.

A Gujarati colophon on folio 124 states that the manuscript was copied by Behdin Aga Bahram Dhanji Jivaji Dalal on Marespand (29th) of Khurdad, Samvat 1842 (1786 AD) at the request of Behdin Shapurji Manuchihrji Manakji Burjurji Tolati.

Includes a Gujarati index on ff. 126v-128r.

Folio 1A includes a romanised list of contents.

Provenance:

This manuscript belonged previously to Samuel Guise (1751-1811), Head Surgeon at the East India Company's Factory in Surat 1788-95 and was acquired by him in India, possibly from the widow of Dastur Darab.
