- Scope & Content:
-
A treatise in 42 short sections (باب) on the construction and use of the astrolabe, by Abū al-Qāsim Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar ibn al-Ṣaffār al-Ghāfiqī al-Andalusī (أبو القاسم أحمد بن عبد الله بن عمر بن الصفار الغافقي الأندلسي, d. 426/1035). The final chapter presents methods for calculating the beginnings of the Christian (عجمية) years and months, summarised in a circular diagram at the end of the volume (f. 27v).
F. 1 is a 19th-century Western paper flap adhered to the inside front cover, containing an explanation of the manuscript’s content in English (f. 1v).
