The first adhyāya.

Incomplete.

In binding this MS, the first pāda has been cut up into two halves, the first ending fol.79v (83 of the original numbering), and the second beginning fol.154r (84 of the original numbering); the last sūtra of the second half is the sixth, (kamairke tatra darśanāt), the first sūtra of the second half is the fourteenth, prayogasya param (fol.163v, 1.8). There have been places between these two parts the last half of the second pāda, the whole third and nearly the whole fourth pāda. This middle part bears the numbers 9 to 83; the first sūtra in the second pāda is the nineteenth, vidhirvā syādapūrvatvādvādamātraṃ hyanarthakam (fol.80r, 1.14), the second pāda ends fol. 86r, the third pāda ends fol.127r, the last sūtra in the fourth pāda is the twenty-fourth, jātiḥ (fol.153r).

The first leaf of this copy is wanting, the second sūtra of the first pāda appears fol.4r, 1.6.

Śālikanātha's guru Prabhākara is quoted by Maṅkha who lived between 1135 and 1145, and by Sāyaṇa, see Aufrecht's Cat.Cat., p.353.

"the second sūtra of the first pāda, 1.6: codanālakṣaṇo rtho dharmmaḥ| kārye rtha iti| na kāryāvagamaṃ vinā pravṛttirūpapadyate| tena kāryābhidhāyakatayaiva vacanasya pravarttakatā| f. 4r "
