Reprint, ca. 1595 of an original print by the Si yi guan (Beijing) from the 15th or early 16th century. Work on the Hua Yi yi yu was first started by Huo Yuanjie (Qoninci, a Mongol scholar who later adopted a Chinese name) in the 14th century. An important reworked second edition had been edited by Mao Ruizheng at the end of the 16th century.

Materials: Cream-coloured paper with traces of light-brown fibres
Dimensions: 252 mm x 116 mm
Script: Han and Fāk khām scripts. The Chinese script is vertical, and reads from right to the left. To read the Fāk khām script, one has to turn the book 90 degree to the left. The text in Fāk khām is horizontal and reads from left to right. Text borders traced in black lines. Yu wei along the vertical folds of the sheets give the titles of sections in the book
