Imprint: N. p., n.d. [c. Enpō-Jōkyō period, 1678-88]. No kanki. Original kanki deleted from block, including year of publication. Remaining vestige of date reads: 三月吉日. (But see under Edition below.)
Description: 1 sheet (folding map), in a slip-case. 712 x 953 mm.
Blockprint. Printing frame 668 x 945 mm. Single-line borders.
Information on map and on lower edge in kanji throughout. No furigana.
Original black covers of folded map (178 x 85 mm.), with original printed title slip bearing gedai: Shinsen (tsunogaki) Dai Nihon zukan 新撰 (角書) 大日本圖鑑. No naidai.
Edition: According to Akioka (see References below), two almost identical editions of a map titled Shinsen Dai Nihon zukan were published with kanki dated Enpō 6 (1678) : 延寶六戊午三月吉日. The present map appears to be an undated reprint of one of these.
Contents: A general map of Japan, including Shikoku and Kyūshū, giving factual information on each province with details of revenue of the major fiefs. A printed panel along lower edge gives summary facts about the number of kōri (郡), mura (村), Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples, and the main groups of provinces.
