Imprint: Edo, Hayashi Yoshinaga, Genroku 2, 1689. Kanki at top right-hand corner reads: 江戸通り新兩替町 / 京橋南江二町目 / 御繪圖所 / 林氏吉永印. Kango at bottom left-hand corner ends with the following dated kanki: 元禄二己巳年五月吉日 林氏吉永.
Description: 1 folding map made up of 15 sheets pasted together, 5 vertical x 3 horizontal, in a box. 1385 × 1368 mm.
Blockprint. Printing frame 1363 x 1364 mm. Single-line borders.
Text-matter in kanji and hiragana-majiri.
Original dark blue covers (2310 x 170 mm.) with renewed title slip bearing manuscript gedai: 江戸御大繪圖. No naidai.
Edition: One of the numerous editions published almost annually by Hayashi Yoshinaga between Enpō 延宝 and Genroku 元禄 periods. Beans lists editions dated Enpō 4 (1676), 6 (1678), 7 (1679), 8 (1680), Tenna 3 (1683) and Jōyō 1 (1684), whilst Kohan Edo-zu shūsei 古板江戸図集成 records an edition very similar to the present one, dated Genroku 3 (1690).
Contents: Large-scale street plan of Edo, hand-coloured in yellow, green, blue and pink. Large inset panels give detailed information on daimyō resident in Edo, with their insignia, and on temples and shrines in the city.
