Description: 1 folding map made up of 25 sheets pasted together, 5 vertical x 5 horizontal, in a box. 1667 × 1248 mm.
Blockprint. Printing frame 166 x 1228 mm. Single-line borders.
Text-matter in kanji, katakana and hiragana.
Original dark blue covers (238 x 157 mm.), with original printed title slip centrally placed. Gedai: Kyō ōezu 京大繪圖. No naidai.
Edition: Maps of Kyōto published by Hayashi Yoshinaga were issued on frequent occasions during the late-17th century. The earliest recorded by Beans (Supplement A, p. 9), also published by Hayashi Yoshinaga, is undated but Beans places it as early as Kanbun 8 (1668). Beans notes also two editions of Genroku 4 (1691) and Genroku 12 (1699), both published by Hayashi. The latter, like the present copy, is titled Shinsen zōho (tsunogaki) Kyō ōezu 新撰増補 (角書) 京大繪圖 on the title slip.
Contents: A large-scale street plan of the city of Kyōto, giving much miscellaneous information on Buddhist temples, distances from Ichijō 一條, etc., in printed panels on the map. Hand-coloured in yellow, green, blue and brown.
