- Scope & Content:
- Drawings of plants which grow around Portobelo in Panama with inscriptions in English in Hans Sloane's hand. All drawings are executed directly on the folios of the manuscript, usually on both recto and verso. Most drawings are executed in pencil, some in grey wash and watercolours. At the beginning of the manuscript (f. i) is a manuscript index by Hans Sloane written in pen and ink, listing the plants drawn and described in the rest of the volume. Many of the drawings are accompanied by inscriptions in pen or in pencil which record information about the physical characteristics of the plant, its name and medicinal properties.
