[Collected works of Nashāṭ]
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains the collected works of Nashāṭ (died 1244 AH/1828-29 CE). Nashāṭ was the mahlas of ᶜAbd al-Vahhāb, a poet and stylist who received the title of Muᶜtamad al-dawlah from Fatḥ ᶜalī Shāh Qājār.
The works in this copy are primarily murāsalāt in Persian with qasīdat and ghazal in the same language, but there are also some compositions in Arabic and in an Eastern Turkic lect that is difficult to identify given the orthography employed.
The Eastern Turkic contents of the volume are as follows:
(I) ff 17v-18v :Khutbah-i Türkī, which begins with a short poem;
(II) ff 33v-35r : Qabālah-i nikâh-i Navvāb-i Mustatāb-i Shāhzādah-i Āzādah ᶜAbdullāh Mirzā;
(III) ff 41v-43v : Nivishtah az Jānib-i Humāyūn-i Ashraf ba Sulṭān Maḥmūd Khāvandgār-i Rūm nivishtah shudah ast;
(IV) f 203v : A short poem in four verses addressing a Qajar ruler, probably Fatḥ ᶜalī Shāh.
There are a number of other works of importance in other languages, including:
(I) ff 18v-19v : A panegyric for Fatḥ ᶜalī Shāh Qājār;
(II) ff 23v-24r : A panegyric for Fatḥ ᶜalī Shāh Qājār on the occasion of the building of the mosque in the Imperial residence in Tehran;
(III) ff 50r-51r : An answer to a letter sent by the ruler of Yemen and another to a letter sent by ᶜAbdallāh ibn Saᶜūd;
(IV) ff 56v-58r : Letters from Sayyid ᶜalī to the Shah and from the latter to Aḥmad Aḥsāʾī and Mūsā Kaẕmawī (Shaykh Shuyūkh);
(V) ff 69v-71v : Letters in relation to the war with Russia;
(VI) f 91v : Letter in relation to the pilgrimage of Mirzā Hidāyat to Makkah;
(VII) ff 95v-96r : 4 short letters to other individuals.
The work was likely copied in the 19th century CE, likely in Tehran or elsewhere in Iran.
