176 drawings executed in a variety of techniques, some of which are signed and dated. The drawings are executed on paper or parchment and pasted down on the folios of the manuscript. Summary description of contents:
1-7. Ink and grey wash studies of various types of fish with their name and a brief description in English or Latin and cross references to the text of an epistle.
8. Watercolour of four crustaceans on brown prepared paper, with inscriptions by Thomas Browne on the verso.
9. Study of crustaceans on parchment.
11. Ink and wash drawing of a crab in two positions, signed 'E. Kikius fec[it] Aug. 11 1701'.
12. Pencil sketch of ‘a cray fish’, thus inscribed by Hans Sloane.
13-18. Ink and grey wash sketches of various crustaceans accompanied by descriptions in English signed by George Jago. The drawing and notes on item 13 were sent as a letter to James Petiver, as can be seen from the address on the verso.
31-35. Ink and grey wash drawings of sea creatures accompanied by descriptions signed by George Jago and cross-references to (missing) epistolary correspondence from 1709.
38. Item removed and transferred to the Prints & Drawings department of the British Museum: a still life on paper by Balthasar van der Ast (1906,1128.1).
42-47. Watercolours of shells signed 'P.W. fe[cit]' (the monogram of the Dutch still life painter Pieter Withoos).
48. Watercolour of two shells on paper prepared with black ground, signed B. v. Ast (the monogram of Dutch still life painter Balthasar van der Ast).
49. Ink and grey wash drawing of a shell from two viewpoints, signed ‘E. Kikius fec. Aug. 7 1701’.
79-83, 101. Ink and grey wash drawings of shells, signed ‘E. Kikius’.
106, 108. Ink and grey wash drawings of shells, signed ‘E. Kikius fec.’ and dated 1701.
110. Small etching of two shells.
139, 142-148. Ink and grey wash drawings of sea urchins and other sea creatures signed E'. Kikius fec[it]', dated August 1701.
159-167. Watercolours of crustaceans and shells framed by a blue paper border by Chinese artists.
168. Item removed from the manuscript and transferred to the Prints & Drawings department of the British Museum: a multicolour woodblock print made in China in the 18th century (1906,1128,0.2).
