Sketches, notes and letters collected and / or made by Dr Edward Browne during his travels across Europe (1664-65 and 1668-69) and later assembled by his father, Dr Thomas Browne. The drawings and inscriptions are made on paper and pasted on the folios of the albums. Several items bear an additional drawing or inscription on the verso. Summary description of contents:
1-2 .Watercolour of ‘Clissura or Monte Argentaro’ [Monte Argentario, Tuscany] with a description in English inscribed by Edward Browne.
4. Black chalk sketch of a man in profile on blue paper. Another drawing in chalk on the verso, similar to a sketch for an anamorphosis.
5. Pen in brown ink drawing of an egg with a bird within it. Another drawing in pen and ink on the verso, of a reclining female nude.
6. ‘Perfecte afbeeldinge van ‘t wonderlycke schip gemaakt tot Rotterdam. 1653’ ( translation: 'Perfect representation of the wonderful ship made in Rotterdam.1653'). Etching signed 'A.I. delineavit', published in Amsterdam by Frederick de Widt. Six lines of description printed in Dutch below the print. Another impression thereof is in the Rijksmuseum (RP-P-OB-77.481).

- The manuscripts of Sir Hans Sloane were purchased at his death from his executors by the Act of Parliament which established the British Museum in 1753.
