A book of drawings made by William Courten, begun in 1673
- Scope & Content:
- A book of drawings by the hand of William Courten (1652-1702), all in red chalk, begun in January 1673. Only five folios from the album are filled with drawings, mostly landscapes. Where the same drawing is repeated twice on the same folio, the drawing at the top of the page is by Jan van der Vaart and the drawing below is the copy made by William Courten. A note on the last folio of the manuscript indicates that the items once on folios 7-17 have been transferred to the Prints & Drawings department of the British Museum on 10 March 1928. These are landscape sketches by Jan van der Vaart, now preserved as sketchbook in the British Museum (1928,0310.93.1-12).
