Costume album of the people of Transylvania

Watercolour drawings depicting costumes of different people of Transylvania, mostly from regions part of present-day Hungary and Romania. There are drawings of Grecian, Egyptian, Turkish and Croatian costumes. All drawings are executed on paper and pasted onto the folios of the album. Most of the drawings have red-bordered strip labels pasted below, with the subject of the drawing inscribed in English. Different from the rest of the drawings in the album are a drawing of a woman in costume executed in brush in black and red, heightened in silver (item 83) and a watercolour and pencil drawing inscribed in English with the words 'Croatian Provinder' (item 84).

Part of this description has been transcribed from the handwritten Catalogue of Additional Manuscripts, vol. 21 (1832), located in the Manuscripts Reading Room, where the volume is described as: 'Colored drawings of Hungarian and Saxon Costumes (84 figures.) folio.'
