Add MS 7925

This volume contains a collections of 6 sakinameler by various poets who lived in the first half of the 11th century CE (late 16th century-early 17th century CE). From the headings prefixed it appears that most of them were still living when the manuscript was copied. The sakinameler are as follows:

(I) ff 1r-3r : Sakiname of Şeyh-ül-İslam Yahya Efendi, under the heading Sakiname-yi Hazret Şeyh-ül-İslam Yahya Efendi sallamuhu Alah. The poem consists of seventy-seven mesnevi verses ;

(II) ff 4r-19r : Sakiname of Azmizade Haleti under the heading Sakiname-yi Hazret Azmizade Haleti Efendi sallamuhu Allah. The poem is divided into fifteen sections called Makale, and contains 515 mesnevi verses. A sakiname with the same beginning is ascribed by Hanifzade to a later poet ;

(III) ff 19v-22r : Sakiname of Şeyhi Efendi under the heading Sakiname-yi Hazret Veliülna'm Şeyhi Efendi tal bakahu, from which it appears that the author was the patron of the collector of the poems. Seyit Mehmet İbn-i Mehmet İbn-i Burhaneddin el-Hüseyni, with the mahlas Şeyhi, belonged to a noble Seyit family of Hamit. He was born in İstanbul and began his official career as Mulazim of the Müftü Yahya Efendi. In 1033 AH (1623-24 CE) he was appointed Kadı of Jerusalem, and in 1034 AH (1624-25 CE), he succeeded his uncle, Şerif Efendi, as Nakibü'l-Eşraf. But, having incurred the displeasure of Murat IV, he was deposed in 1043 AH (1633-34 CE) and sent as Kadı to Mekke. Death overtook him on the way there, in Jeddah, in the same year. His Sakiname is a mesnevi of 111 verses ;

(IV) ff 23r-29r : Sakiname by Nevizade Atayi entitled Alemnüma. In the table of contents it is noted as Sakiname-yi müsemma bi-Alemnüma li-üstat eş-suara Nevizade Atayi. Atayi (Ataullah İbn-i Yahya), son of Nevi Efendi, was born in 991 AH (1583 CE). He followed, with success, the legal profession, and rose to the first rank among the poets of his time. He died in İstanbul in 1044 AH (1634-35 CE) and left a continuation of Mecdi's translation of the Şakaik, a Divan and a Hamse. The present poem, which is the fourth in the author's Hamse, is dedicated to Sultan Osman II. It is divided into 41 sections, a table of which is given at the beginning and consists of 1561 mesnevi verses and twelve rubaiyat. The date of composition, 1026 AH (1617 CE), and the title Alemnüma, are found in a line on f 68r ;

(V) ff 70r-99r : Sakiname of Riyazi Efendi entitled Nukl-i meclis, which contains 1025 mesnevi verses under the heading Sakiname-yi Hazret Riyazi Efendi el-müsemma bi-Nukl-i meclis ;

(VI) ff 99v-102r : Sakiname by Cemi with 101 mesnevi verses under the heading Sakiname-yi şair-i hoş ada Cemi Efendi. Cemi (Mehmet Efendi), who belonged, like the preceding poets, to the ulema, is the author of a Divan. He died in 1075 AH (1664-65 CE).

The table of contents gives the titles of two more Sakinameler that are not found in this volume. One is from the Leyla u Mecnun of Kafazade Faizi, and the other is from a poem of the same title by Füzuli.
