- Title:
- Plans of the Mine of Dannemora in Sweden by Johan Tobias Geisler
- Scope & Content:
-
Plans of the Mine of Dannemora (Uppsala, Sweden), with manuscript inscriptions in Swedish, signed by the mine surveyor Johan Tobias Geisler. The drawings are executed on paper, directly onto the folios of the manuscript, with the exception of item 1, a large foldout map of the ground level of the mine, which has been laid down on canvas. All maps are drawn against a geometrical grid and include scales of distance, as well as a small rectangular table of contents handwritten in Swedish, with lettering referring back to individual elements of the map, labelled with their name. There is a scale for the depth of the mine expressed in Swedish fathoms.
Following the large foldout map, all subsequent maps feature a sequence of layered cut outs to convey the increasing depth of the mine in a three-dimensional way.
