Author/compiler: Shōfūan 松風庵 (pseud. Real name unknown.) Believed to have been a reciter of war tales, living in Kyōto.
Imprint: Kyōto, Yasuura Ichibē, Genroku 16, 1703. Kanki on fol. 34b of maki 8 reads: 于時元禄十六癸未歳 ／ 孟春大吉祥日 ／ ... ／ 京押小路通麩屋町西江入町金屋 ／ 書肆安浦市兵衛刋行.
Description: 8 kan in 14 satsu, in a chitsu case. (Satsu 1) ff. [1] (frontispiece and notes on it), 1-2a (preface 序 signed by the compiler, Shōfūan), 2b-3 (hanrei 凡例), 4-5 (genealogy of Yoshitsune 源九郎義經之系圖), 6-24 (maki 1) ; (satsu 2) ff. 30 (maki 2 上) ; (satsu 3) ff. 1-10, 21-28 (maki 2 下) ; (satsu 4) ff. 1-10, 21-24 (maki 3 上) ; (satsu 5) ff. 1-13, 21-25 (maki 3 下) ; (satsu 6) ff. 1-10, 21-25 (maki 4) ; (satsu 7) ff. 1-20, 31-45 (maki 4) ; (satsu 8) ff. 1-10, 21-29 (maki 5 上) ; (satsu 9) ff. 1-10, 21-33 (maki 5 下) ; (satsu 10) ff. 1-10, 21-34 (maki 6 上) ; (satsu 11) ff. 1-10, 21-28 (maki 6 下) ; (satsu 12) ff. 1-10, 21-40 (maki 7 上) ; (satsu 13) ff. 1-10, 21-25 (maki 7 下) ; (satsu 14) ff. 1-10, 21-34 (maki 8). The numbering of folios in each satsu is misleading, as fol. 10 is in each case followed by fol. 21. 27.4 x 19 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 22.8-23.3 x 17.1 cm. Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text, with printed furigana, dakuten and kutōten. 12 lines to page, variable no. of characters to line.
Original dark blue covers, with original printed title slips (some damaged) remaining on satsu 1-5, 7, 10, 12 and 14. Gedai: Kashiragaki e-iri 頭書繪入 (tsunogaki 角書) Gikeiki hyōban 義經記評判. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: Gikeiki hyōban 義經記評判 + maki no. + folio no.
Edition: The only edition under this title.
Contents: Current standard text (rufu-bon) of the Gikeiki (traditional legends of the life and deeds of Minamoto no Yoshitsune); accompanied by commentary in the form of headnotes and explanatory notes throughout the text.

Condition: Good, apart from minor worm damage in upper margins of a few maki, some water stains and soiled lower corners. Covers of a few satsu worn and rubbed.
Impression: Sharp and clear, shozuri or near.
Illustrations: A total of 36 sumizuri woodcuts, one double-page mihiraki and one or two single-page to each satsu distributed as follows: (satsu 1) 3, (satsu 2) 3, (3) 2, (4) 3, (5) 2, (6) 3, (7) 2, (8) 3, (9) 2, (10) 3, (11) 2, (12) 3, (13) 2, (14) 3.
