Edition: A late impression of the first edition, published in Kanbun 5 (1665). According to Nihon koten bungaku daijiten 日本古典文学大辞典, vol. 6, pp. 85-6, this edition was first published by Matsunaga Iemon 松永伊右衞門 of Kyōto; the blocks were then taken over by Karasuma Sekitokudō 烏丸積德堂 (Kyōto), who published a reprint retaining the Kanbun 5 date but deleting the Matsunaga hanmoto; finally the blocks were acquired by Yoshinoya 吉野屋, who published a further reprint dated Genroku 11 (1698). The present copy, however, appears to be a Yoshinoya edition published earlier than Genroku 11 and retaining the printed date Kanbun 5, 1665.
Contents: A collection of stories, based on the Chinese 二十四孝, telling of the lives of 23 persons famed for their filial piety, drawn from Japanese history and literature.
