Imprint: N.p., Genroku 8, 1695. Publisher not named. Kanki on fol. 33b of maki 下 reads: 元禄八乙亥正月吉祥 / 書林新板.
Description: 3 kan, 3 satsu, in a box. (Maki 上) ff. 35; (中) ff. 36; (下) ff. 33. 22.8 x 16.1 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 19.3 x 14.4 cm. (average). Single-line borders. Hanshin not printed, except for a circle towards bottom.
Hiragana-majiri text, with few printed furigana. 10 lines to page, 24-26 characters to line.
Original off-white covers overprinted with green lattice design. Original printed title slip remains, centrally placed, on maki 上 only. Gedai: え入 (角書) 哥林金葉抄. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Maki and folio numbers are printed at inner (spine) edge of each folio.
Edition: First edition of the work under its new title of Karin kin'yōshō. Previously published under the title Karin ryōzaishū 歌林良材集 (same contents) in 1643, 1651 and 1679. One further edition of Karin kin'yōshō was published in Hōei 1, 1704.
Contents: A work on poetical theory and the composition of waka poems, with examples drawn from Man'yōshū 萬葉集, Hachidaishū 八代集, Ise monogatari 伊勢物語 and other classical literary works. Compiled c. Eikyō 永享 period, 1429-41.

Condition: Generally good. A few brown stains and some worm damage, especially to last 10 folios of maki 下.
Impression: A sharp impression, although not shozuri.
Illustrations: A total of 30 single-page sumizuri illustrations, in an imaginative and accomplished style, depicting poets and themes from their poems. 10 illustrations to each maki. Tentatively attributed to Yoshida Hanbē 吉田半兵衞.
Seals of ownership: Square red seal, Shunsui bunko 春翠文庫 (seal of Nakajima Jinnosuke 中島仁之助), on first page of each maki.
