Description: 2 kan, 2 satsu, in a box. (Maki 上) ff. [39] ; (maki 下) ff. [47] . Folios unnumbered. 27.3 x 18.8 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 21.7 x 17 cm. (average). No borders. No printed hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text without furigana. 10 lines to page, variable no. of characters to line.
Original vermilion covers, with original printed title slips on left. Gedai (in gyōsho) : 歌林良材集. Title from naidai at head of maki 上 and 下. Mokurokudai: 謌林良材集目錄.
Edition: This work was first published in Kan'ei 20 寛永二十年 (1643), with further editions in Keian 4 慶安四年 (1651) and Enpō 7 (1679) -see no. 449 below. The present copy is most likely to be an undated later impression of the Kan'ei 20 (1643) edition, or to belong to an unrecorded edition published between 1643 and c. 1660.
Contents: A work on poetical theory and the composition of waka poems, with examples drawn from Man'yōshū 萬葉集, Hachidaishū 八代集, Ise monogatari 伊勢物語 and other classical literary works. Compiled c. Eikyō 永享 period, 1429-41.

Impression: Atozuri, from fairly well-worn blocks.
Seals of ownership: Small circular red seal, Kurasawa 倉澤, on first page of both maki. Also a square red seal (unidentified) on first page of maki 下.
