[Divan-i Hatai] - [ديوان خطائى]
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains a number of poems from the Divan of Hatai (Xətai/Khaṭā’ī; Şah İsmayıl Səfəvi), containing 46 gazeller, some mesneviler, and mukattaat. The text is imperfect at the end.
The poetry is in Azerbaijani, as evidenced by the presence of words such as "mənə" (f 11v) and "yox" or "çox" (f 12v) instead of their Ottoman Turkish equivalents.
The text contains illustrations on ff 1r, 4v, 7v, 14v, 17r, and 19r. Illumination is copious, with headings featuring gold or blue backgrounds and floral illumination. Verses written diagonally are also highlighted through the use of similar illumination, while inset horizontal text has squares of blue and floral illumination as well.
A note on f 1r includes the text 'Nawadir El Mouleks (Recits des Rois) pour le Chah Khatay'.
A medallion with pointed top and bottom on f 19v contains a partially-effaced text in Arabic in red ink atop a gold background. It appears to contain the date 1141 AH (1728-29 CE), but it is not clear if this is a date of copying, or a date of ownership transfer. Above this is a Persian inscription in black ink stating that the manuscript has 19 folios.
A stamp bearing the words "taftīsh shud" and the date 1330 AH (1911-12 CE) along with a signature in blue ink is found on f 19v. The issuing authority is not clear.
Although it gives the date of transcription as 906 AH (1500-01 CE), the date is likely late 15th or early 16th century CE because of the illustrations. .
