Movable type. Printing frame 21.5 x 16.5 cm. No borders. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text without furigana. 11 lines to page, 21 characters to line.
Original front cover, dark brown verging on black, of maki 上 only, within western-style binding in half-leather. No title slip. No gedai. Title from naidai. Hashiragaki: Jō (ge) 上 (下) + folio no.
Edition: Movable type edition, one of six editions of this work, produced from early Genna (shortly after the siege of Ōsaka castle) to Kan'ei period.
Contents: A factual account of the siege of Ōsaka castle during two campaigns in winter 1614 and summer 1615, in which Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated Toyotomi Hideyori.

Seals of ownership: No Japanese seals. Red octagonal British Museum stamp MVSEVM BRITANNICVM on first and last folios of each vol.
Manuscript notes: Manuscript note in black ink on inner front cover: ""Japanese IMATTO i. e. Ecclesiastical Character or Church Text"" (!), probably 18th century. A later note has been pasted in below, perhaps at the time of acquisition by the Library: ""Ohosaka monogatari (en ch. 大坂物語). Histoire de la ville d'Ohosaka, en japonais, caractère firakana. 2 vol gr. in 8.
