- Title:
- Enju satsuyō 延壽撮要 [延寿撮要]
- Scope & Content:
-
Author/compiler: Manase Gensaku 曲直瀨玄朔, 1549-1631, also known as Dōsan II 道三 (二代), nephew and adopted son of Manase Dōsan I, ""the elder"".
Imprint: [Kyōto] , Nakano Ichie [mon] 中野市右衞 [門] , n.d. [Kan'ei period, c. 1625-40] . Batsubun on unnumbered leaf following last page of text is dated as follows: 慶長己亥丘 [sic, possibly a misprint for 立] 夏之節 / 法印玄朔. This is not the date of publication but the date of composition of the author's batsubun.
Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in western style. ff. [1] (目録), 41, [1] (batsu). 26.1 x 18.7 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 22 x 17.5 cm. No borders. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text with printed furigana and kutōten. 12 lines to page, 15-20 characters to line.
Blue and white renewed front cover only, dating from late-Edo period, within modern western style half-leather binding. No title slip. Handwritten gedai: Enju satsuyō zen 延壽撮要 全. Hashiragaki: Enju satsuyō 延壽撮要 + folio no.
Edition: This copy, a blockprint with 12 lines to the page, is not to be confused with the three movable type editions of Keichō / Genna period which have 10, 11 and 9 lines to the page respectively. Despite some resemblance to a movable type edition, the present copy differs markedly from each of the above editions and is not a direct kabusebori from any of them. The imprint Nakano Ichie [mon] 中野市右衞 [門] quoted above is faintly visible on the last folio verso containing Manase Gensaku's batsu (reprinted from earlier editions of the work). It indicates that this edition was published in Kan'ei period, when Nakano set up in business.
Contents: An early medical work dealing with bodily hygiene.
