Drawings of shells, fossils and corallines
- Scope & Content:
- Drawings of shells, fossils and corallines accompanied by manuscript notes in English and their names inscribed in Latin or English next to the specimen or on the verso of the folio. The drawings are executed directly on the folios of the manuscript, framed by a washline. Some unfinished drawings are traced in pencil only, but most are executed in pen and ink or ink and grey wash. The inscriptions sometimes include cross-references to the Royal Society's Journal Philosophical Transactions and to the Italian naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi. On f. 'ii' is an inscription in pencil: 'P. Gordon Jamaica 1736'.
