Author/compiler: Jiang Shaoyu 江少虞. Early 12th century.
Imprint: N.p., [Go-Mizunoo Tennō 後水尾天皇] , Genna 7, 1621. Date following batsubun signed by the monk Zuiho, formerly of Nanzenji, at end of maki 78 reads: 元和七年重光作噩六月晦日 ／ 前南禪臣僧瑞保謹書印.
Description: 1 (mokuroku 目録) + 78 kan, originally in 8 satsu, now rebound in 2 vols. western style. 27.6-27.8 x 20.2 cm. Fukurotoji.
No added kunten, either in main text or batsubun. Very few reading marks in red ink compared with other copy.
Original fawn front covers of satsu 1 (jo 序 and mokuroku 目録) and of satsu 5 (maki 44-55) only, within modern western style half-leather binding. No title slips on the two surviving front covers. Manuscript gedai, reading: Kōchō ruien (etc.) 皇朝類苑 (等), is written directly on covers, in gyōsho.
Edition: Imperial edition (chokuhan 勅版), printed by order of Emperor Go-Mizunoo. The first Japanese edition of this important Chinese work. Third in the sequence of chokuhan. Main text printed in clear, regular kaisho; preface and batsubun in gyōsho script of larger size. Main text believed to be printed from wooden type. Imprint of original Song edition on which this Japanese edition is based appears as follows on fol. 7b of mokuroku: 紹興二十三年 ／ 癸酉歳中元日 ／ 麻沙書坊印行.

Condition: Good. Water-stained in places. Small amount of worm damage at end of mokuroku and beginning of maki 1. Maki 34-43 and maki 44-55 have been accidentally transposed when binding vol. 2 in western style.
Impression: Sharp and clear.
Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal (inkoku), Kō Kōson chinzōin 向黃邨珍藏印 (ex-libris Mukōyama Kōson 向山黃村), on first pages of maki 1 and maki 67.
