The monastic collection at Dolma Ling Nunnery near Dharamsala, India. An archive of objects, texts and Lama Mani thangkas which includes some modern copies of much older thangkas in the collection. The precise provenance of the individual items in the collection is undocumented and unknown but it is clear that the collection was gathered by Buchen Gyurme (Wylie ’Gyur med) and includes his own materials as well as material donated by his friends and fellow exiled Tibetan Lama Mani, Buchen Norgye (Wylie Nor rgyas) and Buchen Passang (Wylie Pa sangs). These were three Lama Manipa who had fled from Tibet and who continued to perform within the exile Tibetan communities in India and Nepal. There is not enough information to know whether all the Dolma Ling material came from these three sources but it seems likely. The material originally belonging to Buchen Passang and Buchen Norgye was gathered by Buchen Gyurme and added to his own material to form a visual and textual resource to be used in a project to teach the Lama Mani role to nuns at Dolma Ling and thereby attempt to keep the tradition alive, a project curtailed by the death of Buchen Gyurme.
