Description: 3 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (上) ff. 4 (序), 4 (目録), 28; (中) ff. 27; (下) ff. 34. 29.7 x 21.6 cm. Fukurotoji.
Movable type. Printing frame 24 x 18.2 cm. Double-line borders all round. Vertical rules between columns. 'Flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin.
Kanbun text without printed kunten. 10 lines to page, 18 characters to line.
Original mid-brown front cover only, without title slip. Manuscript gedai:□陰比事 (partly obliterated). Hashiragaki: Tōin hiji jō 棠陰比事上 (chū, 中 ge 下) + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding.
Edition: Two variant movable type editions of Kan'ei period are known. The typesetting is very similar in both cases, but the present copy belongs to the edition printed with rules between the columns of type. The other edition has no rules.
Contents: Japanese edition of Tangyin bishi 棠陰比事, a collection of 144 selected civil and criminal law cases, covering a period of c. 300 BC to c. 1100 AD. Compiled by Gui Wanrong in 1211. This work was translated into Japanese and adapted to kana-zōshi form with the title Tōin hiji monogatari 棠陰比事物語.
