Blockprint. Printing frame 22.3-23.1 x 17.5 cm. Single-line borders above and below text. Double-line borders at inner edge of each leaf. Vertical rules between columns. Fishtail design on hanshin.
Kanbun text, without printed kunten or reading marks. 9 lines to page (double for commentary, 8 in preface), 16 characters to line (14 in preface).
Renewed yellow covers (c. late-Edo period) of former satsu 1 and 6 only, with renewed title slips bearing manuscript gedai: 山谷詩集注一 (六). Title from naidai at head of each maki. Title at head of satsu 1: 山谷詩集註目錄年譜附. Title at head of preface preceding maki 1: 黃陳詩集註序. Hashiragaki: Sankoku 山谷 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding.
Edition: Gozan-ban. Undated edition, printed from newly cut blocks closely modelled on a Chinese Song edition. The preface preceding maki 1, reprinted from the Song original, is signed by 許尹 and dated 紹興乙亥 (=25th year, 1155). The batsubun printed in gyōsho script at the end of maki 20 bears the date 紹定壬辰 (=5th year, 1232) and indicates that this is a fukkoku reprinted from a Chinese edition of 1232.
Contents: Collected poems of Huang Tingjian (Shangu 山谷), compiled and edited with commentary by Ren Yuan 任淵 in the mid-12th century.

Condition: Fair. Extensive worm damage (unrepaired) in maki 1, 2, 17, 18 and 20 especially. The whole work has been re-backed by urauchi, repairing worm damage suffered at an earlier date. Brown stains in maki 2, ff. 6-16, otherwise a clean copy.
Impression: An early printing, sharp and clear.
Seals of ownership: Large square red seal, 薩摩國鹿児島郡寺田平氏靜節山房清祕圖書記 on first page of former satsu 1 (目録) ; small square red seals, Dokuto sōdō 讀杜艸堂 on first page of most former satsu; square red seals, 寺田盛業 (printed inkoku) and 字士弘号望南, on first page of former satsu 10. (All four seals used by Terada Bōnan 寺田望南.) Also, rectangular red seal, 向黃邨珍藏印, on first page of former satsu 1, 2 and 10, and square red seal, 寶宋閣珍賞, on first page of preface (former satsu 2) : both seals used by Mukōyama Kōson 向山黃村.
Manuscript.notes: Interlinear and marginal textual notes throughout maki 1 and, more sparsely, on first few folios of maki 2, 3 and 6, written in an early hand. Kunten and kaeriten in black, and shubiki and kutōten in red, added throughout the text.
