Imprint: Kyōto, Tawara Nizaemon 田原仁左衞門, Kan'ei 20, 1643. Kanki, printed in a narrow framed compartment at end of last folio verso of maki 12, reads: 寛永二十癸未歳孟春吉日／二条柳馬場東入町田原仁左衞門新刋.

Description: 12 kan, formerly in 10 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Satsu 1) ff. 7 (prefaces 序 by Wang Yu and Chen Ruixi), 28 (目録) ; (satsu 2) ff. 40, maki 1; (satsu 3) ff. 38, 13, maki 2-3; (satsu 4) ff. 60, maki 4; (satsu 5) ff. 30, maki 5; (satsu 6) ff. 22, maki 6; (satsu 7) ff. 33, maki 7; (satsu 8) ff. 36, maki 8; (satsu 9) ff. 21, 31, maki 9-10; (satsu 10) ff. 28, 28, maki 11-12. 28.3 x 20.4 cm. Fukurotoji.

Blockprint. Printing frame 20.8 x 16.3 cm. (average). Double-line borders all round. 'Flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin.

Kanbun text, with printed okurigana and kaeriten. 10 lines to page (double for commentary), 22 characters to line.

Dark blue front cover of satsu 1 only, embossed with a chequered design. Blockprinted title slip, probably original, bearing gedai: Kanboku zensho jo mokuroku 翰墨全書序目錄. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: Kanboku 翰墨 (in some maki Kanbokusho 翰墨書) + maki no. + folio no.

Edition: The only Edo-period edition traceable.

Contents: Extracts from Chinese literary works, arranged under 15 broad subject headings, compiled as an aid to elegant letter writing.

Impression: An early impression, shozuri or near.

Seals of ownership: Small circular red seal, Hasshū 八宗, on last page of each former satsu.
