Description: Incomplete copy: 6 kan (of 26). Preliminary maki (chronological biography of Su Shi 蘇軾), maki 1-4 and maki 25 only. Formerly in 6 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Satsu 1) 東坡紀年錄; (satsu 2) ff. 1-5 序, 6-9 姓氏, 1-58 本文, maki 1; (satsu 3) ff. 44, maki 2; (satsu 4) ff. 55, maki 3; (satsu 5) ff. 59, maki 4; (satsu 6) ff. 57, maki 25. 28.5 x 20.7 cm. Fukurotoji.
Movable type. Printing frame 22.2-22.4 x 17.7-18.3 cm. Double-line borders all round. Vertical rules between columns. 'Flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin, bordered by double rules.
Kanbun text, without printed kunten or reading marks. 9 lines to page (double for commentary), 15 characters to line.
One original light brown back cover bound in at end of volume. No front cover survives, hence no title slip or gedai. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Preface title: 増刋校正百家註東坡先生詩序. Hashiragaki: Ha shi 坡詩 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style marbled paper binding with cloth spine.
Edition: The only movable type edition of this work, undated but attributable to mid / late Keichō or Genna period. The type font was probably modelled on a Korean movable type edition, itself based on a Chinese Song edition. The original Chinese imprint (mokki 木記) is reprinted on the last page of the preface (序 + 姓氏) of the present edition, as follows: 建安虞平□□ / 務本書堂刊.
Contents: A romantic Chinese novelette of the Tang period, dealing with love and the supernatural, written in a harmonious blend of poetry and prose. Introduced at an early date into Japan, it was subsequently lost in China and survived only in Japan. Chinese title: Youxianku 遊仙窟. The present work contains an extensive commentary in Japanese by an unknown author.

Condition: Good on the whole. Worm damage (unrepaired) on first 10 and last 5 folios, and sporadically in upper margins. Few stains.
Impression: Variable. For the most part sharp and clear.
Seals of ownership: None.
Manuscript notes: Kundoku, okurigana and kaeriten in black, added not later than Kan'ei period (1624-44). Also shubiki and kutōten in red.
