This collections largely consists of notebooks that were used at the Public teacher's college, known as the Normal or Normaal School, in Surakarta. This school offered two-years programmes to young Javanese students around the age of fifteen to prepare them for a teaching post in indigenous primary schools. These schools remained active until the large-scale eviction of Dutch residents and institutions from Indonesia in 1957.

- The notebooks are stored in three separate houses without a particular order. Martoyo explained they were kept in a separate box for numerous decades.
