- Scope & Content:

This volume contains an ornately worded account of the uprising that led to the deposition of Sultan Mustafa II (reigned 1106-15/1695-1703 CE) and the death of the de facto ruler, Şeyh-ül-İslâm Feyzullah Efendi. This latter episode is frequently referred to as the 'Edirne vakası'. The author of the text is Mehmet Şefik Masrafzade, a civil servant and official chronicler (died likely 1127 AH/1715 AH).
The text is of also of stylistic interest, particularly for the many elğaz (enigmatic verses) by the author. A literary commentary, Şerh-i Şefikname, was written in 1120 AH (1710 AH) on Midilli (Lesbos, contemporary Greece) by Mehmet İbn-i Ahmet İbnü'l-Hacc Musalli. The present manuscript contains the preface to the Şerh-i Şefikname (ff 78r-v).
There are marginalia throughout the text and a title inscription on f 1r. The text also contains an illuminated unvan on f 2v.
The colophon to the work is found on f 78v, and states that it was copied by Ahmet Bais Mihaliç and completed on 21 Şeval 1200 AH (17 August 1786 CE).
