- Title:
- Kitab tercümetü'l-Havaşi li mukahhime fi şerh il-Mukaddime - كتاب ترجمة الحواشى لمقحمة في شرح المقدمة
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains an Ottoman Turkish translation of a commentary on an Arabic metrical work on tecvit (Qur'an recitation) entitled al-Muqaddimah fī ᶜilm al-tajwīd (المقدمة في علم التجويد) by Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Jazarī (751-833 AH/1350-1429 CE). His son, Shihāb al-Dīn Aḥmad al-Jazarī (780-827 AH/1378-1424 CE) wrote the commentary translated here, which is one of several in existence. Other catalogues give the title of this work as al-Ḥawāshī al-mufehhimah fī sharḥ al-Muqaddimah (الحواشى المفهمة في شرح المقدمة), but in the title and the text of the present manuscript it is consistently and clearly referred to as el-Havaşi ül-mukahhime.
A title page of sorts is found on f 2r and contains an inscription giving the translator's name as İbrahim İbn-i Hüseyin-i Fakıh el-Ankari, known as ('el-müştehir bi-') Taceddin Arif. This name has not been traced in standard reference works. The wording leaves little question but that the current manuscript was written by the translator. The manuscript also contains numerous annotations in the scribe's own hand.
Other contents of the manuscript include litanies in Arabic under the heading Ḥizb al-Nawāwī (حزب النواوي) (ff 119r-v); an Arabic dicta (front endpaper); and the title inscription (Şerh-i Cezeri) and the text of a fetva on f 1r.
The colophon of the work is found on f 119r and contains no name of copyist, date of completion, or place of completion. It was likely completed in the mid- or late-16th century CE.
