- Title:
- Kongōkyō san'yō kanjōki 金剛經纂要刋定記 [金剛経纂要刊定記]
- Scope & Content:
-
Author/compiler: Zixuan 子璿, Chinese monk, d. 1030.
Imprint: [Kyoto] , Tawara Nizaemon, n.d. [c. Kanbun period, 1661-73] . Kanki printed inkoku on fol. 20b of maki 7 reads: 二条鶴屋町 田原仁左衞門新刋.

Blockprint. Printing frame varies between 21.6 and 22.4 x 15.6 cm. Double-line borders all round. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Kanbun text with printed okurigana and kaeriten. 10 lines to page, 20 characters to line.
Renewed light blue front cover of maki 1 only, embossed with a floral design. Renewed title slip with manuscript gedai: 金剛經纂要刋定記. Title from naidai at head of each maki.
Hashiragaki: Shina senjutsu 支那撰述 (at head of hanshin) kongōkyō kanjōki 金剛經刋定記 + maki no. + folio no. + 農四 (五, 六, 七, 九, 十). In a western style half-leather binding.
Edition: The only pre-modern edition of this work to be published in Japan, based on an earlier Chinese edition. A printed note at the end of each maki records the number of characters engraved for that maki and the cost of block-cutting, ending with a Chinese date 崇禎丙子 or 崇禎丁丑, equivalent to 1636 and 1637. This implies that a Chinese exemplar was used for printing the Japanese edition. The tsunogaki Shina senjutsu 支那撰述 on the hanshin of this work suggests that it was published as part of a series of commentaries on Chinese Buddhist works.
Contents: An extension of the commentary by the Tang monk Zongmi 宗密 on the Kongō hannya haramitsukyō 金剛般若波羅蜜經 (Diamond Sutra, Skt. Vajracchedikā-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra), revised by the Song monk Zixuan 子璿. One of the six leading commentaries on this sutra, drawing on the work of other commentators on the Diamond Sutra (Skt. Vajracchedikā-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra). The compiler, Zixuan, had also been responsible for revising Zongmi's original commentary.
