Imprint: Edo, Urokogataya, Kanbun 11, 1671. Kanki on fol. 42b reads: 寛文十一辛亥九月吉辰 ／ 江戸大傳馬三町目 ／ 鱗形屋板.
Description: 5 kan, 3 satsu, in a buckram chitsu case. The same foliation as no. 162 below. 27 x 18.9 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 22.5 x 17.2 cm. (average). Single-line borders round each page. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text, with some printed furigana. 15 lines to page, 24-26 characters to line.
Original vermilion covers, with original printed title slips on left. Gedai: E-iri (tsunogaki) Nichiren ichidaiki 繪入 (角書) 日蓮一代記. Title from mokurokudai and head of maki 2-5.
Hashiragaki: Nichiren 日蓮 + folio no.
Edition: The third blockprinted edition, dated Kanbun 11 (1671). It shows marked differences from the later undated edition (see 16087.b.8).
Contents: An exegetical work discussing the doctrines of the Kegongyō (Skt. Avataṃsaka-sūtra, Ch. Huayan-jing) and the critical classification of its five teachings and ten sects. Circulated widely in Japan after its introduction from China in the 8th century. Extant copies are in 3 or 4 kan.
