Title on handwritten tobira (copied from an earlier edition) : Engo hekiganshū 圜悟碧巖集. Hashiragaki: Hekigan 碧岩 + maki no. + folio no. Text printed on fine, strong tōshi paper.
Edition: An unidentified Gozan-ban edition, not corresponding exactly to any of the 16 editions listed on pp. 265-6 of GK. There is a possibility that it might belong to edition no. 12 or 13 in GK, but copies of these are not described or illustrated in any available work of reference. Or it may be a variant edition not recorded in GK or elsewhere. The present copy has each section of the work numbered inkoku, like GK's edition no. 1, and the shape of kanji closely resembles GK no. 1, but it does not have the latter's double borders all round. A tentative conclusion is that this copy belongs to a variant edition, hitherto unrecorded, printed much later than GK no. 1 (early Nanbokuchō), probably at some date in the 15th century.
Contents: A collection of 100 kōan 公案 selected by the Song monk Chongxian from the 1700 kōan contained in Keitoku dentōroku 景德傳燈錄, with commentary by the later Chan monk Yuanwu 圜悟, also known as Keqin 克勤.
