- User Conditions:
- Physical Characteristics:
-
Condition: Some worm damage in maki 6 and in supplementary maki 1 and 3.
Impression: Atozuri. A poor impression of the original work, maki 1-6, from badly worn blocks. Impression of supplementary maki 1-3 is sharper, but these blocks also show evidence of wear.
Illustrations: Copiously illustrated with full-page and part-page sumizuri woodcuts, 185 in all, depicting episodes in Chinese history and legend. Tobira-e preceding preface depicts the 16 Lohans 羅漢, printed in pale green, with dragon and cloud border. An interesting early example of printing in colour.. The three supplementary maki are similarly illustrated with double-page, single-page and part-page sumizuri woodcuts, not specifically attributed to Hasegawa Tōun 長谷川等雲, and almost certainly the work of a different artist.
