Description: 9 kan, 2 satsu. (Maki 1) ff. [1] (序), 32; (2) ff. 27; (3) ff. 31; (4) ff. 29; (5) ff. 31; (6) ff. 35; (7) ff. 40; (8) ff. 24; (9) ff. 32. 22.2 x 15.4 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 17.5 x 13 cm. (average). Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text with printed furigana (katakana). 10 lines to page, 22-24 characters to line.
Original mid-blue covers with original printed title slips. Gedai: 當□ (角書) 茶之湯評林大成. Title from mokurokudai and from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: Chanoyu hyōrin 茶湯評林 + maki no. + folio no.
Edition: The only pre-modern edition.

Condition: Fair. A clean copy, but with extensive worm damage in maki 4, 5, 6 and 7.
Impression: Shozuri or near.
Illustrations: Profusely illustrated in all maki except no. 8, with sumizuri woodcuts, mostly small, some full-page. Paintings for the teahouse reproduced in maki 1; flower arrangements in maki 2; layout of teahouse utensils in maki 3-5; tea bowls and jars in maki 6-7; gardens and teahouse plans in maki 9.
