- Scope & Content:
-
An album containing 39 waka poems written on decorated paper slips (tanzaku 短冊). These are believed to be part of a set of 50 poems which were composed at an imperial poetry party (Seibyō gohōraku utakai 聖廟御法楽歌) held on 25th day of the 6th month of Kanbun 9 [22 July 1669].
The titles of the poems are all in the hand of Asukai Masaaki (1611-1679). 37 of the slips bear the name of the author who are Court nobles including: Chigusa Ariyoshi
The first two poems, without names, are probably by Emperor Reigen (1654-1732) and Retired Emperor Go-Sai (1638-1685) respectively.
On the verso of the leaves evidence of paste suggest that 10 or 11 other tanzaku were originally contained in the album, possibly representing the complete set of 50.
