This volume contains a concise encyclopaedia reviewing the twelve principal branches of learning by the poet and religious scholar Yahya ibn-i Pir Ali (died 1007 AH/1599 CE), whose mahlas was Nev‘i.
Nev‘i was born in 940 AH/1533-34 CE in Malkara. His father was a Halveti shaykh, and it was from him that Nev‘i first received instruction in the Sufi path. He went to Istanbul in 957 AH/1550 CE and completed his medrese education. He later served as a müderris himself, initially in Gallipoli and later in Istanbul. He wrote a number of works in verse and prose, with many of them reflecting his deep interest in Sufism. He died on 30 Zilkade 1007 AH/24 June 1599 CE.
Nev‘i presented the Netaicü’l-fünun to his patron Sultan Murad III (ruled 982-1003 AH/1574-1595 CE), whose sons he tutored between 998-1003 AH/1590-1595 CE. The contents of the work are as follows:

There are plain gold lines over the text opening, forming what resembles the outer contours of a complete small illuminated heading.
