Turkish verse in the Rebabname of Sultan Veled
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains Old Anatalian and Eastern Turkish verses, in transcription, from Rabābnāmah, the Sufi didactic mesnevi poem in Persian by Sultan Veled (623-712 AH/1226-1312 CE). The latter was the son of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi (604-672 AH/1207-1273 CE) and himself a spiritual master.
The verses have been transcribed and edited with notes in German and apparatus criticus by the German orientalist and Islamicist Franz Taeschner (1896-1967 CE). The brief preface mainly comprises bibliographical references. Folio 20, which has been tipped in, contains notes on some Ottoman Turkish words in a Vienna manuscript (Cod. Vindobonensis). There does not appear to be another copy of this work.
Text begins: 1. Mäwlana-dür äwliyā qüṭbi bilün * Nä kim ol buyurdi-sa ani qilŭn
Though undated, the text was probably written between 1935 and 1945 CE.
