This volume contains the following texts. Each of them are in the same hand, and the copyist has carefully vocalized the text throughout. There are many unusual spellings.
I. (ff 1v-87r) [Tercüme-i Tezkiretü’l-evliya] – [ترجمهٔ تذكرة الاولياء]
This section contains an Old Anatolian Turkish version of the famous compilation of notices of Muslim saints composed in Persian by Farīd al-Dīn ʿAṭṭār (died 618 AH/1221 CE). It was completed by an unknown author in the time of Aydınoğlu Mehmed Bey (ruled 708-734 AH/1308-1334 CE), who founded the Aydınoğulları Beylik.
The present manuscript is an early copy and is very incomplete at the end. The way in which the text is vocalized is of great interest. The text finishes before the end of the section on the second century AH/eighth century CE scholar and ascetic Sufyān al-Thawrī, which starts on f 85r. Its opening accords with a copy held in the Library of the Topkapı Palace Museum (K. 1004).
Begins:
(Besmele) elhamdülillahi’l-Cevvad bi-efzal enva‘i’n-nu‘ama’i’l-Mennan bi-eşref esnafi’l-ataya ... Amma ba‘d: Çün Kur’an’dan ve ahadis’den sonra [sic] hiç şeyhler ve meşayihler sözlerinden üstün söz yoktur zira (?) ki bunların sözleri netice-i haldır
Ends:
Bu nüshanın daği gönüllerde yeri var ve bu süre-’i ve bu nüsha-’i okuyanlar dünyada destgir ve ahirette şifaatçı kıla bi-fazlih ve lütfihi’l-(?) Innehü Hüve’l-Gafuru’r-Rahim
II. (87v-140r) [Tefsir-i Sure-i İhlas] – [تفسير سورهٔ اخلاص]
This section contains a commentary on the 112th sure of the Quran, al-Ikhlāṣ.
Begins:
(Besmele) (Qul huwa ‘Llāh Aḥad) Ekser-i müfessirler katından bu süre ki Kur’an’ın nurıdır dört ayettir Ehl-i Şam katında beş ayettir on beş kelimedir kırk yedi harftir
Ends:
ve bunu cem‘ eyleyen ‘asibedterin yazulludur kemteri (?) Rahman Tanrıdan rahmet umucudur ve salla’llah ala Seyyidina Muhammed …
III. (140v-142v) Narrative attributed to one Abdullah el-Küreyşi
This section may perhaps be an excerpt from a larger work, possibly concerning Sufis and/or Sufism. It cannot belong to the preceding Tercüme-i Tezkiretü’l-evliya since a personality by the name of Abdullah el-Küreyşi does not feature in that work. It is also possible that this text is part of, or an addendum to, either text IV or V in this volume, both of which contain a number of anecdotes.
Begins:
Abdullah el-Kureyşi eyder, Yedi yüz ferseng yol verdim yedi siz [sic?] çün ta kim eriştim bir alime eyittim, Ey Tanrının uleması [sic] bir kaç savalım vardırır ki senden soram
Ends: gönlünden dilindeki ol olsun kişileri eyü sevilikden (?) artık hiç söyülmek [i.e. söylemek], Vallah alem bi’s-savab
IV. (143r-149r) [Akide risalesi] – [اقيده رسالهسى]
This section contains a tract on the nature of God and other aspects of the Islamic articles of faith. The work begins with the text and a paraphrase of sure 112, al-Ikhlāṣ, and contains several illustrative anecdotes. The author’s identity is unknown.
Begins:
(Besmele ve bihi’l-‘avn ve l-müt‘an [sic, i.e. müste‘an]) Kal Allah Teâlâ (Qul Huwa ‘Llāh Aḥad) ...
V. (149v-175v) Kitabu’l-Akaid - كتاب العقائد
This section contains a treatise on fundamentals of Islamic doctrine, illustrated by a number of anecdotes. The author, who does not give his name, dedicated the work to a military commander named Emir İlyas Bey, whom he describes as a friend.
Begins:
(Besmele ve bihi’l-‘avn ve’l-müste‘an) Şükür ve sıpas ol Tanrıya kim Vahid-i Gaffardır Kerim-i Settardır Rahîm-i Cebbardır Kadir-i Kahhardır, ve dürüd ve tahiyat-i aferin ve salavat... ve ba‘d: Bu kitab müştemildir ber Hadis manası kim ol Hadis din köki ve şeriat bünyadıdır
Ends:
mü’min onun hâlinden hiç haberi yok (Tamm)
The volume also has some later additions, including a magic roundel on f 140r with accompanying text claiming that anyone who looks upon it will be immune to the fire of Hell, and formulae on f 149r to recite to become cured if sick, rich if poor, and to have all one’s needs met.
Though undated, this copy probably dates to the later 9th century AH/15th century CE.
