This volume contains a treatise in Ottoman Turkish on metaphysics, mystical epistemology, and the esoteric symbolism of letters and dots authored by Şeyh Muhyiddin-i Rumi of Edirne. He was a disciple of Bayezid-i Rumi, Şeyh of the Cemaliyye branch of the Halvetiyye tarikat. He passed away after 946 AH/1539 CE in Štip, located in the eastern part of North Macedonia.
Along with Temsil-i Kaliçe and Temsil-i Şecer, the Temsil-i Nokta forms part of the Temsilat (symbols), three texts authored by Şeyh Muhyiddin-i Rumi which collectively expound the great Andalusian scholar and mystic Muḥyi ’l-Dīn Ibn al-ʿArabī’s (560-638 AH/1165-1240 CE) doctrine of Waḥdat al-wujūd (‘Unity of being’). Şeyh Muhyiddin’s Dâire-i Cihânnümâ also expounds this doctrine.
Şeyh Muhyiddin describes the point (nokta) as ‘the start and essence of the word and the source of the knowledge,’ the commencement of being, and ‘the initial source and outlet of the universe’ (Yücer, ‘Vahdet’). The text contains a number of direct (Arabic) quotations from Ibn al-ʿArabī’s writings. The work includes a double-page diagram relating mystical letters to signs of the zodiac, and a smaller table of alphabet letters. There are also poems concerning the esoteric significances of letters. Part of the opening of the text is illegible owing to smudging, and the text is incomplete at the end, missing the ending of a kaside, another full kaside, two rubailer, and a müfred.
Begins:
elhamdülillahillezi halaka’s-semavat ve’l-arz … ve’s-salat ve’s-selam ... Amma ba‘dü: Kale emiru’l-mü’minin Ali bin Ebi Talib … ‘el-‘İlmu nokta ??’ Pes esrar-ı noktanın iz‘an olunması murad olundukda lisan-ı aczle takdir u kusur-ı fehimle tabir u tahrire kalem bula tastir olunup beyan olunur
Ends:
Kaside der beyan-ı esrar-ı nokta ... Nice yüz bin avalim seyr idüben * Bu insanda kemal buldı gayet * Nefehtü sırrına mazhar düşüben * zuhur eyledi pes ruh-ı izafet
There is an illuminated unvan on f 1v. Other contents include mystical verses on 1r and calculations of dates etc. on 1v-2r. Several other folios contain carelessly written marginal annotations, some in Arabic.
Though undated, this text is from around the 11th century AH/17th century CE.
