- Title:
- Sanjūrokkasen 三十六歌仙
- Scope & Content:
-
An anthology of poetry by the 'Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry'. The right-hand side of each opening has a poem by one of the 36 poets written on a sheet of decorated paper ( shikishi) in the calligraphy of a prince or court noble. The name and title of the calligrapher is indicated on a paper slip pasted to the right of the shikishi. On the left-hand side of the opening is a portrait of the corresponding poet.
The front and endpapers are covered in gold paper with illustrations of landscapes.
The manuscript is undated but the first of the calligraphers to die was Shōgoin Dōkan Hōshinnō who died in 1676 so the manuscript must have been completed by that date.
