Material relating to correspondence between the writer and critic John Ruskin and the engraver Duncan C Dallas, including five letters from Ruskin to Dallas, handwritten and shorthand drafts of six letters from Dallas to Ruskin, a print of a photographic portrait of Ruskin by the photographers Elliott & Fry, and three envelopes addressed by Ruskin to Dallas.
The correspondence relates to a new process for engraving photographs using steel, which Dallas wished to demonstrate for Ruskin, and Ruskin's comments on Dallas' results and conduct.
The collection also includes a later letter from Ruskin to a "Gabrielle", wishing her the best for Christmas and describing himself as "your far away and woful [sic] lover".
