Title from title slip in centre of front cover.
The first of the imperially-commissioned waka poetryanthology compiled at the beginning of the 10th century.
The manuscript is said to be by the noted poet Nijō Tameyo 二條為世 (1250-1338)and is accompanied by documents supporting the attribution bearing the names and seals of official"authenticators" in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Label on fol. 1 reads: 二條家為世卿 古今和歌集全部 御書継四條隆音.
Accompanying letter of certification by Mori Senzo, Professor of JapaneseLiterature, Waseda University dated 9 February 1955 reads in part "... In1305, SHÔ-AN Era in Japan,about 630 years ago, it was written with hand by Tameyo Nijô, a noble-man ofKyoto …”.
A further letter of authentication states that the title slip is in the calligraphy of Hachijō no Miya Ryōjun Shinnō 八条宮良純親王 (1604-1669).
